As to the tablet on the market, Motorola’s Xoom tablet wasn’t that brilliant — we desperately wanted it to bring Android tablets to the mainstream, but it failed to deliver. Motorola isn’t giving up though, and the Motorola Xoom 2 is lighter and slimmer than its predecessor. But it’s not running Ice Cream Sandwich, the newest version of Android, so it’s hard to see what this tablet offers over rival tablets. Stay tuned for the full review.

The Motorola XOOM 2 has a 10.1-inch screen, just like on its predecessor. It’s reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass and Motorola’s own splash-resistant coating for even better protection. Under the hood, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor brings plenty of software muscle and there’s 1GB of RAM to back it up. All of that is packaged in an ultra slim 0.35” (8.8mm) body and spiced up with a very durable battery delivering around 10 hours of battery life. There’s also a 5MP camera on the back, and a 1.3MP shooter up front and you can record images and video to the 16GB of internal memory.

When it comes to the rest of the features, the two tablets are very similar.
Both have a 1.3 MP front and 5 MP rear-facing HD cameras, 1GB RAM of memory and 16GB storage and are pre-loaded with MotoCast.
The Motorola Xoom 2 is also ‘business ready’ apparently, as it has Active Sync for work email, contacts and calendar.
The Motorola Xoom 2 UK release date is mid-November with pricing to be announced.
Unsurprisingly the Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition UK release date is also mid-November and both tablets are already on pre-order at the Carphone Warehouse – although Moto may have to get someone at Carphone to turn the link on as it wasn’t live at the time of publishing.

Motorola also boast that it’s now 100g lighter than the original Xoom, but we still get an HDMI port, microUSB connectivity and 16GB of storage, not to mention stylus functionality, though the capacitive pen is sold separately. The Xoom 2 itself has now been priced up at £379.99 and you can check out those cut-off corners in our hands-on video after the break.
